Name: VIRTUAL - Charlotte Street Fellows · 2023 – Archives and Research in Artistic Practice
Date: March 7, 2024
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM CST
Event Description:
Join us for a dialogue between artist, educator, and Charlotte Street 2023 fellow Ruben Castillo and Stuart Hinds, Curator of Special Collections & Archives, University Libraries at UMKC. Ruben Castillo and Stuart Hinds will discuss how artists use research and archives to inform and expand their artistic practice. Castillo’s current installation at the Nerman Museum features works that reference specific objects in the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Mid-America (GLAMA), which is part of the Special Collections & Archives at UMKC. Over the course of several years, Castillo worked with Hinds to conduct research into the histories and aesthetics of these important objects and incorporated them into his ongoing printmaking and installation practice. Learn more about his artistic journey and about the resources that the Special Collections have to offer. This dialogue will occur online only. RSVP to receive livestream link. The Charlotte Street Fellows · 2023 exhibition will be on view through April 14, 2024. The 2023 recipients, Ruben Castillo, Sean Nash, and Sun Young Park were selected by a panel of local and national curators. Annually, Charlotte Street honors three exceptional Kansas City-based visual artists with unrestricted cash awards and a professionally curated exhibition at esteemed non-profit art institutions. The 2023 awards and exhibition received major underwriting from the Jedel Family Foundation.
