Job Description

The City of Spring Hill is accepting applications for a full-time, exempt Assistant City Administrator overseeing Community Development and Public Works under the supervision of the City Administrator. 

Essential duties

  • Plans, organizes and implements Community Development projects;

  • Manages the building and zoning function, including current and long-range planning, code enforcement and building inspection activities;

  • Participates in the development or update of plans involving the City infrastructure and oversees projects to ensure contractor compliance with time and budget parameters;

  • Maintains regular contact with consulting engineers, construction project engineers, city, county, state and federal agencies, professional and technical groups and the general public regarding activities and services;

  • Responds to public or other inquiries relative to engineering procedures on specific projects and other information;

  • Maintains and enhances the City’s infrastructure;

  • Manages the maintenance and repair of City streets, ensures ice and snow removal are conducted in a timely manner;

  • Manages the development and maintenance of City parks and equipment;

  • Maintains the City’s storm water collection system;

  • Oversees the operation of the City’s wastewater plant and the maintenance and repairs of the sanitary sewer collection system;

  • Evaluates issues and options regarding municipal public works and presents recommendations;

  • Assists in developing and managing the departmental budget.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business, Business Administration, Engineering or related degree. Experience may substitute for degree at a one-to-one ratio. This position requires 10 years of progressively more responsible professional-level experience preferably in a public sector environment with a focus on community development, infrastructure management or public works.
